CIRCUS TO BEGIN ST. THOMAS RUN ON TUESDAY

There'll be no lions, tigers or polar bears, but dogs, horses and peacocks will perform with the Suarez Brothers Circus, which will open on St. Thomas with a show at 8 p.m. Tuesday in Lionel Roberts Stadium.

ATTEMPT TO OVERRIDE INFRASTRUCTURE VETO FAILS

The Senate minority flexed its muscle Thursday and refused to join in voting for an override of Gov. Charles W. Turnbull's veto of Sen. Emmett Hansen II's 2001 Infrastructure Maintenance Act of 2001. Two majority members withheld their support as well, as the effort went down to defeat.

MUSIC MAN ARCHIE THOMAS LEAVES A LEGACY

"Blow, Archie, Blow" went the lyrics of one of the Virgin Islands' most renowned songs, a trademark of the Archie Thomas Band. "It's only the sax I play professionally," he said once in an interview, "but I can teach even what I can't play." Thomas, who died on Sunday, July 14, did a lot of playing and a lot of teaching, leaving a lot of people with fond memories of his music, and many with the skills to carry it on.

HOUSE OKS FUNDS FOR ACQUIRING SALT RIVER LAND

Improvements to the Salt River Bay National Historic Park and Ecological Preserve on St. Croix inched a bit closer to reality on Wednesday with passage by the U.S. House of Representatives of a bill sponsored by Delegate Donna M. Christensen that appropriates $1.5 million to pay for part of a parcel of land adjacent to the park.
