What is a Virgin Islander? V.I. Studies Collective to Host Forum Series April 10, 11 and 14

April 11, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 6:00 pm

The V.I. Studies Collective — a group of scholars, artists, and community advocates — invites the community to a series of public forums on each island to discuss a set of critical questions that are important to us, the people of the U.S. Virgin Islands.
The schedule is as follows:
St. John – Wednesday, April 10, 4pm-6pm at Bajo el Sol, Mongoose Junction
St. Thomas – Thursday, April 11, 4-6pm at Sabroso Restaurant, Waterfront
St. Croix – Saturday, April 13, 11:30-1:00 at UVI Campus the Great Hall
What does it mean to be a Virgin Islander? What makes the Virgin Islands unique? How can the Virgin Islands community, on the island and in the diaspora, help create a vibrant and engaged future for the Virgin Islands? These are defining questions—the types that strike a chord and lead to robust conversations with friends, family members, and colleagues in the territory. As U.S. Virgin Islanders, our attempts to broach these subjects are essential to our present and future wellbeing. Together, we can explore these important questions.
The Virgin Islands Studies Collective consists of Tiphanie Yanique, La Vaughn Belle and Drs. Tami Navarro and Hadiya Sewer. VISCO is asking the people of the U.S. Virgin
If you are–or know of–an artist, activist, community organizer, cultural bearer, political leader, genealogist, researcher, writer or simply a curious and invested resident, please join us! VISCO aims to present the ways we are trying to address these questions and to engage with others who have been or are interested in thinking about and answering these questions.
