The Virgin Islands Port Authority’s (VIPA) Board of Governors has amended its marine tariff to address safety concerns regarding limited storage space, an increase in cargo activity and storage of flammable material at the Crown Bay Sandfill on St. Thomas. Free storage time at the Sandfill is now limited to 12 hours for petroleum-based products and hazardous materials, and 24 hours for general cargo. The public is invited to a hearing today to discuss the change to the tariff. The hearing will be held in the Crown Bay Center Conference Room at the Austin “Babe” Monsanto Marine Terminal via teleconference in VIPA’s conference room, Henry E. Rohlsen Airport Terminal on St. Croix.
