UVI Astronomy Day

October 28, 2017

While the Etelman Observatory is not prepared to host visitors, UVI’s new mobile-planetarium is, and the public is invited to take part in the first UVI Astronomy Day. The planetarium is set up inside the library, and UVI physics faculty and students will take visitors on a tour of the night sky and our solar system. Ample parking is available behind the UVI library. Also, there will be solar telescopes set up outside of the library for viewing the sun as well as arts & crafts tables set up for younger visitors. Faculty will be on hand to discuss UVI and the Etelman Observatory’s contributions to the recent discovery of gravitational waves and electromagnetic radiation from a pair of colliding neutron stars — a first-of-its-kind scientific discovery that has marked the beginning of a new age in physics.
