The 12th annual “Dollar fo’ Dollar Culture & History Tour: A Remembrance of the 1892 Coal Workers Strike on St. Thomas” will be a walking tour in celebration of the hundreds of 19th century coal laborers and Queen Coziah who held a successful protest in the streets of Charlotte Amalie for better wages. This re-enactment marks the 125 anniversary of the strike that was held on Sept. 12, 1892. Participants should gather at 9:30 a.m. at Fort Christian for tour orientation. The free, interactive tour will include re-enactments, oral history, bamboula dancing, drumming and a coaling exhibit.
The tour will begin at Fort Christian and travel through Main Street, the Waterfront and end at Market Square.
