VIOHS will be Conducting its Annual Observational Seat Belt Survey

The Occupant Protection Program at the Virgin Islands Office of Highway Safety will conduct its annual Observational Seat Belt Survey in the upcoming weeks.

This territory-wide evaluation of seat belt use is part of a continuing effort to help reduce crash-related fatalities and injuries in the territory. Preusser Research Group Inc. (PRG) will be conducting seat belt observations at 20 locations distributed over St. Thomas (8), St. Croix (10), and St. John (2). Additionally, observers will conduct additional rear seat safety belt observations throughout each island.

Participating personnel will be identifiable by the yellow/orange safety vests they will be wearing while conducting observations as follows:

• St. Croix – August 26, 2022 – September 4, 2022

• St. John – August 30, 2022 – September 6, 2022

• St. Thomas – August 30, 2022 – September 9, 2022

For more information on seat belts and child car seats, or to schedule a car seat safety check, contact the Virgin Islands Office of Highway Safety through Director Daphne O’Neal at daphne.oneal@vipd.vi.gov or Occupant Protection Planner/Coordinator Denise Gomes at denise.gomes@vipd.vi.gov.
