VIPD Warns Residents of Fake WAPA Calls.

The Virgin Islands Police Department (VIPD) is advising the community to guard against telephone calls from scam artists posing as employees of the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority (WAPA). WAPA management has indicated that scammers are using a computerized system that is using the authority’s main telephone numbers to call residents to demand payment or face disconnection of services.

WAPA management has confirmed that the Authority does not use an automated telephone system to contact customers regarding account delinquency and/or service disconnection. If a customer receives any such telephone call, the customer should immediately hang up.

For more information about this scam, contact the Virgin Islands Water and Power Authority or the VIPD.
