A man injured in a collision between an automobile and a motorcycle accident Thursday on St. Thomas died of his injuries the V.I.Police Department reported in a news release issued Friday.
The identity of the victim was withheld as of Friday evening pending notification of the next of kin.
According to police, at about 7:29 p.m. Thursday officers were dispatched to Rumer Drive in the vicinity of the Oswald Harris Court housing community, to an auto accident with injuries involving a motorcycle. Upon arrival, officers observed several good Samaritans attempting to aid a Caucasian male on the ground.
Police said the investigation revealed the motorcycle was traveling northward on Rumer Drive in the center turn lane. A Toyota Corolla, traveling east on 1st Avenue, made a right turn onto Rumer Drive, where the collision occurred. The rider of the motorcycle, who was thrown off the vehicle in the collision, was transported to the Schneider Regional Medical Center via ambulance for treatment, but succumbed to his injuries at about 8 p.m.
Police urged anyone with information about the incident to contact police by calling 911 or the Traffic Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211.
