In a continued effort to support Water Island Search and Rescue (WISAR) and to ensure the safety of the residents of the island, the Virgin Islands Fire Service (VIFS) has acquired a John Deere XUV for use by VIFS and WISAR personnel.

VIFS utilized funding from a grant awarded by the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Forestry Service to purchase the utility vehicle, which is equipped with a tank that can hold up to 150 gallons of fire suppression additive.

“The Virgin Islands Fire Service appreciates the work WISAR does to protect the residents and visitors of Water Island and is pleased to partner with the volunteer organization,” said V.I. Fire Service Director Daryl A. George Sr. “This new equipment can be used for small fires and brush fires and will help to improve both VIFS and WISAR’s operations on Water Island.”
