Governor Remembers Rep. Elijah Cummings as Statesman, Bastion of Leadership in Congress

Congressman Elijah Cummings

Governor Albert Bryan Jr. expressed condolences on behalf of the people of the Virgin Islands on the passing of Congressman Elijah Cummings Thursday morning:

“Our hearts are with the city of Baltimore and the family, friends and colleagues of Congressman Elijah Cummings and the many Americans across the country who looked up to him. He was the embodiment of statesmanship, of fairness, of compassion, among many other things. He was a bastion of moral leadership in the Congress and an example for all elected leaders.

When I met Congressman Elijah Cummings, I felt the spirit of the civil rights movement, and although he has passed on, that spirit will continue to live on through the many people he inspired.

I admired Congressman Cummings for his commitment to his constituents and to democracy and all of its flaws.”
