Governor Appoints Additional Acting Agency Heads

Gov. Kenneth E. Mapp has announced the appointment of Dionne Wells-Hedrington as acting commissioner of the Department of Education (DOE), Clarina Modeste-Elliott as acting commissioner of the Department of Finance (DOF), and Calvert White as acting commissioner of Sports, Parks and Recreation (DSPR), effective at 5 p.m., Monday, Dec. 31.

Wells-Hedrington replaces former Commissioner Sharon McCollum, Modeste-Elliott replaces former Commissioner Valdamier Collens and White replaces former Commissioner Pedro Cruz.

The former Commissioners each resigned from their positions this month.

Further personnel appointments will be made in the days ahead.

  1. Wells isn’t the superintendent that changed the board”s retention policy without their consent,( which was illegal) and made teachers retain students based on a bogus policy. They retained any child that had ONE failing cumulative grade on their report. Students were retained and no one said a thing. Imagine students that Aced all subjects and had to repeat the same grade twice because nonexisting policy. All principals, commissioners, and administrators and Board members knew what Wells was doing was wrong but yet no one stood up for the children. They wasted a whole year of hundreds of children’s lives and ruined their self-esteem in the process and no one did a thing to correct their mistake. Shame on them all.

  2. Why appoint people when you have two to four days left in office and St. Croix festival active.

    Division of Personnel : Milton Potter
    Department of Property and Procurement :

    Bureau of Motor Vehicle : Lawerence Olive
    Including others on the cabinet.

  3. Yes she was in a car accident with the government vehicle….(D.U.I). Sorry but she was a terrible choice to hold this position. It’s best if she would of just stick to being a principal and that she couldn’t even done properly along with her bogus marriage. While she so often cheats on her husband.
