The U.S. Department of Commerce – Minority Business Development Agency (MBDA) Export Center has given Lemartec, with operations on St. Thomas, U.S.V.I., the 2018 Florida Minority Construction Firm of the Year Award.

The MBDA National Minority Business Awards Program recognized Lemartec for its outstanding performance in the construction sector as an active Minority Business Entrepreneur (MBE) during the hurricane disaster recovery process in the U.S. Virgin Islands. This award is the highest level of national recognition that a U.S. minority-owned firm can receive by the U.S. Department of Commerce.

It was presented at a ceremony during National Minority Enterprise Development Week in Miami, Fla., also known as National MED Week, which is observed across the U.S. to recognize and celebrate the achievements and contributions of the minority business enterprise community.

“This award confirms that Lemartec is a significant contributor to the recovery of the U.S. Virgin Islands community,” said Manuel R. Garcia-Tuñon, president of Lemartec. “This recognizes everyone on my team that makes Lemartec’s continued growth possible. As a newly acquired MasTec company, this honor goes to our 20,000+ MasTec team members around the country and the world. You can’t find a better example of how a minority business can contribute to the community and the world at large than MasTec – with close to $7B in revenue and, now, a proud member of the Fortune 500.”

Lemartec was one of several Outstanding Minority Entrepreneurs and Advocates presented with the prestigious MEDWeek 2018 Award. Each company was selected for remarkable strides made in their respective industries, contributions to their communities, positive impact on disaster recovery, and for building local and national economies.

Lemartec is the prime construction manager rebuilding U.S. Virgin Islands Port Authority assets impacted by hurricanes Irma and Maria, including the territory’s two major airports: St. Thomas’s Cyril E. King and St. Croix’s Henry E. Rohlsen.
