Cruise Ship Passenger Dies Snorkeling at Trunk Bay

A cruise ship passenger enjoying the day snorkeling at St. John’s Trunk Bay died Tuesday afternoon.

The V.I. Police Department said the man’s next of kin identified the victim as 67-year-old Guoquiang Wang. While the cause of death is not known, pending an autopsy, the police report indicated drowning was considered a possibility.

According to the police report, at 12:53 p.m. Tuesday the 911 dispatcher received a call of an unresponsive male at Trunk Bay on St. John. Units from the National Park Service and the V.I. Police Department traveled to the scene, where emergency medical technicians concluded that the male, later identified as Wang, did not have any vital signs.

Preliminary investigation revealed that the male was snorkeling at Trunk Bay and shortly thereafter, his body was observed floating in the water.
