Rotary Club Distributes Backpacks to First Graders at Sibilly School

Rotary Club of St. Thomas East members give Sibilly School first graders filled backpacks.

Members of the Rotary Club of St. Thomas East donated four dozen backpacks filled with school supplies to first grade students at the Joseph Sibilly Elementary School on Monday, Sept. 10. The backpacks are equipped with pencils, crayons, glue sticks, reusable water bottles and books for the students to read and share with their classmates.

Tim Hall, Rotary East chapter president, welcomed the energized first grade class as he revealed the contents of each backpack. “We work hard to help prepare you all for the school year with the help of our community. We are able to share these cool things with you because the community shares with us too! Remember to share your books with your classmates because you have different books in your bags. We hope that you be inspired because that is our motto this year!”

The various Rotary Club chapters have distributed filled backpacks to various public, private and parochial schools as part of their yearly back-to-school bag distribution program. This week, 60 bags were distributed to Ulla Muller Elementary School, as well. Approximately 300-400 bags are distributed to the public-school students depending on enrollment.

Upcoming distributions will take place during the week of Sept. 24, at Joseph Gomez and Yvonne Milliner-Bowsky Elementary Schools. The Rotary Club of St. Thomas East will also be demonstrating and distributing water filtration systems during the Joseph Sibilly Elementary School PTA meeting scheduled for Sept. 12.
