Domingo Diaz, a 40-year-old from the Dominican Republic, was arrested Monday and charged with possession with the intent to distribute cocaine and attempted possession with the intent to distribute cocaine in a plot that utilized the mail, U.S. Attorney Gretchen C.F. Shappert announced.
Diaz made his initial appearance before Magistrate Judge Ruth Miller.
According to the charging information, Diaz was involved in using the U.S. postal systemto mail two packages, which of which contained more than 500 grams of cocaine, a controlled substance.
If convicted of either possession with the intent to distribute cocaine or attempted possession with the intent to distribute cocaine, Diaz faces a minimum sentence of five years in prison and a $250,000 fine on each count.
The case is being investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service, the Drug Enforcement Administration, Homeland Security Investigations and U.S. Customs and Border Protection and prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Sigrid M. Tejo-Sprotte.
