Alert: STT-STJ Power Outage Wednesday

A major electrical service interruption is affecting approximately 14,500 customers in the St. Thomas – St John district. According to the Water and Power Authority, power plant personnel are working to restore a tripped generating unit to facilitate restoration of service to the affected customers. Two generators tripped at about 2:16 p.m. Wednesday. Power remained out on much of the island at 6:30 p.m.  WAPA personnel say they do not know yet when power is likely to be restored. In addition, there is a fire at Moorehead Point, which WAPA personnel say is a transformer near the WAPA substation.
