GeQuan Aubain Wins Bowsky Elementary Spelling Bee

GeQuan and parents

Sixth-grader Gequan Aubain was named Spelling Bee Champion of the Yvonne Millner-Bowsky Elementary School on Wednesday, Jan. 31.

After 10 rounds, with eight students competing for the chance to advance to the District Spelling Bee, Gequan correctly spelled the championship round word “disguise.”

Bowsky Assistant Principal Sandra Reed opened the event by welcoming parents, students and supporters to the annual competition. She made special mention of the extra time and effort the students devoted to preparing for the Bee, even on an abbreviated school schedule.

Following the singing of the Virgin Islands March and the school’s PBIS song, the rules were read and the Spelling Bee was underway. The students, a mix of fifth and sixth graders, demonstrated their large vocabularies and excellent literacy skills.

Gequan Aubain was crowned champion; sisters Robyn Eddy and Krystal Eddy took home the first and second place spots.
