Man’s Body Found Floating in Harbor

The body of an unidentified man was found floating in Charlotte Amalie harbor early Thursday, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to police, two individual who were jogging along the Waterfront noticed a body floating in the water at about 5:28 a.m. Thursday. Units from the Richard N. Newton Command and units from the Criminal Investigation Bureau traveled to the harbor in response to their call.

The body of an unresponsive black male was retrieved from the water with no vital signs of life.

Identification of the male victim is being withheld until next of kin is notified.

The case is presently under investigation by the Major Crime Unit. Police urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 ext., 5569 or 340-714-9830, the 911 emergency call center, the chief’s office at 340-715-5548, the Commissioner’s office at 340-715-5506, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
