Police Report Assault, Rape, Robbery Over the Weekend

The V.I. Police Department reported a series of crimes that took place in the territory over the weekend.

Robbery Reported In Smith Bay

At about 10:36 p.m. Saturday a man called 911 and reported that a male attempted to rob him and his girlfriend.

The victim, whose name was not released by police, said he and his girlfriend were sitting in the area of the Smith Bay bus stop when a male walked up to them pointed a gun, demanding their money and cell phone.

The victim told the suspect they did not have any money and he was not giving up his phone. A scuffle ensued and during the scuffle the gun went off and he was grazed to his head, he told police.

The victim said he wrestled the gun away from the suspect and threw it over the fence in the area. He said he continued to strike the suspect several times with his closed fist to his face until two other males intervened and they all fled in an unknown direction.

The male victim declined medical treatment and his girlfriend did not report any injuries.

At 8:45 a.m. Sunday morning, members of the Criminal Investigation Task Force located a firearm where the victim said he threw it the night before.

Assault Reported In Housing Community

At 8:59 p.m. Saturday a woman told police she had been at her apartment at Oswald Harris Court Housing when her electricity was switched off from the outside electric panel box.

The victim said she opened her front door to check the electric box and saw a black male who pointed a handgun at her. The victim said the male walked towards her and quickly closed door and fled the area on foot.

Police urged anyone with information about the incident to contact the VIPD at 340-774-2211, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-714-9801, the 911 emergency call center or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.

The case is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau.

Woman, 70, Reports Rape

An 18-year-old woman reported Monday that she had been repeatedly sexually assaulted by a 70-year-old man at various times in 2017,when she 17 years old. The matter is currently under investigation.
