Man Charged with Burglary After Break-in

V.I. Police officers on Sunday arrested 33-year-old Derek Person and charged him with third-degree burglary after receiving a report of a break-in at the Medical Foundation Building in Sugar Estate, St.Thomas, the department reported.

According to the VIPD, officers received the report at 7 p.m. Sunday. Arriving at the scene they discovered that one of the western glass windows had been broken. They also found the suspect inside the building, the report said.

Person was placed under arrest and transported to the Richards Callwood Command, where he was then brought to the Criminal Investigation Bureau.

Police said Person was advised of and waived his rights, and gave a statement admitting he broke into the Medical Foundation Building window by using a wooden stool to shatter the window’s glass.

Person was booked, processed and charged with third-degree burglary. Unable to post $25,000 bail, he was turned over to the Correction Bureau pending his advise of rights hearing.

Police urged anyone with information about the incident to call the VIPD at 340-774-2211, the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-714-9801, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
