U.S. EPA Identifies Collection Locations for Household Hazardous Waste

United States Environmental Protection Agency

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has identified collection locations for household hazardous waste. Residents should drop off their household hazardous waste at the collection pad location closest to them:

o    St. Croix: at Evelyn Williams Elementary School. Hours of operation: 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., daily.

o    St. John: at Myrah Keating Smith Community Health Center. Hours of operation: 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., Sunday.

o    St. Thomas: at Addelita Cancryn Jr. High School or Lima (Gasworks) or Bovoni Landfill. Hours of operation: 7:30 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Saturday.

EPA considers some leftover household products that can catch fire, react or explode under certain circumstances, or that are corrosive or toxic as household hazardous waste. Products, such as paints, cleaners, oils, batteries and pesticides can contain hazardous ingredients and require special care when residents dispose of them.
