Man Beaten Near Honduras Playground

A man was hit by a car and beaten with a what appeared to be a steel tool Saturday night in the Honduras area, near the playground, the V.I. Police Department reported.

According to police, at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday the 911 center received a call reporting that the caller had seen what appeared to be a vehicle intentionally striking a man, knocking him to the ground.

The witness told police that an unknown man then got out of the car from the front passenger side and began to strike the victim with what appeared to be a crow bar about his body while the man was down on the ground. He said the assailant repeatedly demanded the victim’s money as he continued to strike him.

Another person in the area then asked the male suspect to give the male victim a break and to stop the assault,” according to the police report, at which time the male suspect stopped and fled the area in his vehicle.

The victim, whose name was not released by the police, was transported by ambulance to the Schneider Region Medical Center where he received treatment for his injuries.

The case is under investigation by the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Police urged anyone with information about the crime to contact the bureau at 340-774-2211, the 911 call center, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
