St. Thomas Pilot Dies in PR Crash

A St. Thomas man was killed and another seriously injured when the single engine plane they were flying crash-landed at Puerto Rico’s Isla Grande Airport on Monday.

Names of the victims were not available Monday night and few other details were available.

Aviation Safety Network reported that the aircraft, a 1961 Cessna 182D Skylane fixed wing, flipped upside down on the runway causing serious injuries to the pilot and one passenger.

Late Monday night, the pilot, said to be well-known in Virgin Islands aviation circles, died of his injuries. The other passenger was reported to be undergoing extensive medical treatment at a Puerto Rico hospital.

The flight had reportedly departed from the Cyril E. King Airport. The aircraft’s tail number is N9021X.
