Rumor of Diesel Shortage No Longer Accurate

Rumors of a diesel shortage are already out of date and exaggerated, according to V.I. officials and fuel merchants.

A reader asked about rumors that there is a major diesel problem on St. Thomas and St. John, possibly due to a broken pump or water contamination. The Source was unable to confirm if a pump was broken but was able to confirm there is enough diesel fuel.

“There is a huge supply of diesel just brought in by another company today,” Lt. Gov. Osbert Potter said Monday.

“There is no shortage of diesel nor a diesel problem at the moment,” he said.

There were shortages over the weekend, especially on St. John, due to limited transportation and heavy use of generators. FEMA officials urged St. Johnians to limit generator use. Barges of fuel were brought over on Friday and Saturday at least and possibly Sunday.

”Most of the supply issue lies with the availability of diesel, where the demand has outstripped the supply,” former Sen. Allie Allison Petrus, oner of PG Gas Station on St. Thomas said Monday. But he said he understood a trip had been made to St. Croix for diesel over the weekend.

“As for gasoline, there is no need for panic as the boats should resume normal routes this week,” Petrus said.

  1. So there is no shortage but you quote a former Senator as saying demand has outstripped supply?

Potter is a clown. Why even bother regurgitating his spin?

There is a diesel problem. Try and find someone who has enough.

Maria broke some of the pumps at Total and PUMA, which caused issues with distribution. Sure, plenty of fuel on island, and more than plenty in STX, but that doesn’t matter if can’t get it out of the tanks. It’s coming back online but still very hard to come by in STT.
