DOE Says Special Nutrition Program Applications Now Available for Fresh Fruit and Vegetables

The Virgin Islands Department of Education’s State Office of Special Nutrition Programs has announced the availability of the schoolyear 2017-2018 Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP).   The program provides all children in participating schools with a variety of free fresh fruits and vegetables throughout the school day.  It is an effective and creative way of introducing these fruits and vegetables as healthy snack options.

All public elementary schools in the St. Thomas-St. John and St. Croix districts are encouraged to apply.  Applications can be picked up or e-mailed beginning Friday, Aug. 11, at the Special Nutrition Programs Office, St. Thomas, which is located at the bottom of Polyberg Hill in the former J. Antonio Jarvis Annex School. They can be picked up or e-mailed to the Department of Education, Main Complex, which is located at 2133 Hospital Street, Christiansted.  The deadline for applying is Friday, Sept. 1.

For more information, call 774-0100, ext. 2812 on St. Thomas or 773-1095, ext. 7082 on St. Croix.
