Man Sentenced for Burglarizing Post Office

District Court Judge Curtis V. Gomez on Thursday sentenced 34-year-old Selmo Watts to eight months in prison and three years of supervised release for burglarizing a post office, acting U.S. Attorney Joycelyn Hewlett announced.

Gomez also ordered Watts to perform 200 hours of community service, and pay a special assessment of $100.

According to court records, during the evening of Nov. 27, Watts broke into the Arturo A. Watlington, Sr. Post Office in Frenchtown and removed at least eight packages. A Postal Inspector reviewed video surveillance of Watts entering and exiting the post office. Watts was identified by officers from the Virgin Islands Police Department, who also reviewed the surveillance video.

The case was investigated by the U.S. Postal Inspection Service and the VIPD. It was prosecuted by Assistant U.S. Attorney Everard E. Potter.
