Mikaela Carty Wins Academic Prize at Wesleyan University

Wesleyan University student Mikaela Carty of St. Thomas, formerly of the Virgin Islands Montessori School, was recognized this spring with the Dr. Neil Clendeninn Prize.

It was established in 1991 by George Thornton, Class of 1991, and David Derryck, Class of 1993, for the African American student who has achieved academic excellence in biology/molecular biology or biochemistry. This student must have completed his or her sophomore year and during that time have exemplified those qualities of character, leadership and concern for the Wesleyan community as shown by Dr. Neil Clendeninn, Class of 1971.

Wesleyan University is a private, non-sectarian liberal arts university in Middletown, Conn. Founded in 1831, it offers its 3,000 undergraduates and 200 graduate students a demanding educational environment characterized by boldness, rigor and practical idealism.
