Gunman Shoots Man Parked on Side of Road

A St. Thomas man told police he was parked on the side of the road at the top of Raphune Hill Monday afternoon making a phone call when a passerby stopped and shot him twice.

According to police, at 4:56 p.m. the 911 emergency call center received a report of a gunshot victim in the Frydenhoj Gold Hill area.

The victim was transported by ambulance to the Schneider Regional Medical Center emergency room.

Officers arrived at the emergency room and spoke to the victim, a 23-year-old man whose name was not released. The victim said he had pulled onto the side of the road at the top of Raphune Hill and was talking on his cell phone.

An unknown male walked past him and fired two shots towards him for no apparent reason, the man told police. He said he was not thinking clearly and drove himself to a friend’s house in Frydenhoj, where the ambulance then picked him up.

The victim sustained a single gunshot wound to his rear left upper arm and was treated and released by the emergency room doctor.

Police urge anyone with information about the shooting to call the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 340-774-2211 ext. 5579 or 5556. 1. So let me get this straight. This guy got shot in broad daylight, during rush hour no less, at the top of Raphune Hill – then decided to drive himself likely through heavy traffic, in the opposite direction of the hospital. No one sitting in traffic heard the shots or called it in? I’d be curious to find out if the police were able to find any evidence of a shooting at Raphune Hill at all (ex: spent casings). Better yet, I wonder if VIPD ran a trace metal test on this guy to determine if the victim had fired a gun that day. Bottom line, something’s not adding up here.
