Edward Benko Dies at 86

Edward Benko

Edward Benko died at Roy Lester Schneider Hospital on Dec. 27, 2016. He was 86 years old.

Benko made St. Thomas his home for over 40 years, eventually retiring from the Addelita Cancryn High School where he was well-known and respected as a math and English teacher. His lifelong dream was to live on a sail boat, but unfortunately that never came to pass.

He is survived by his sister, Marge Majors; nephews: John E. Smith and Michael Benko; and sister-in-Law, Katie Smith.

Mr. Benko was interred at Puerto Rico National Cemetery in Bayamon, Puerto Rico, as he wished. He was a disabled Navy veteran and Purple Heart recipient.

Mr. B will be dearly missed. The family thanks the doctors at the Roy Lester Schneider Hospital for their care, patience and kindness. It also thanks Turnbull’s Funeral Home and Crematory for its outstanding service.
