Dear Source: The Forum, a non-profit organization dedicated to bringing world-class artists and events to St. Thomas, is thrilled to announce that the Cuarteto Latinoamericano, who performed as the Forum’s first live event of the season on November 12 at the Prior-Jollek Hall, has just won their second Latin Grammy. The Cuarteto’s latest recording was announced as the best Latin Classical Album on November 17.
The album, “El Hilo Invisible” (The Invisible Thread), is 10 songs of Sephardic tradition, performed by Mexican singer Jaramar with the Cuarteto Latinoamericano. The Cuarteto has always had a deep connection to this rich musical heritage, as the three members of the quartet are of Sephardic origin and many of these songs were sung by their Turkish-born grandmother. The arrangements for voice and quartet for the album was by the fourth member, Javier Montiel (viola player of the Cuarteto) and by the Colombian musician and arranger Juancho Valencia.
“The Forum is very proud of the Cuarteto Latinoamericano’s success and that through the generous assistance of the Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation and Mexico’s Ministry of Culture, we were able to bring this amazing group to perform for our local community and present a workshop for some lucky students from Charlotte Amalie High School and Antilles,” reported Neil Prior, the Forum’s Board Chair. “I hope you will go to www.theforum.vi and come join our next event,” added Mr. Prior.
