Rushdie Won’t Appear at V.I. Literary Festival

Internationally acclaimed author Salman Rushdie will not be able to attend the Virgin Islands Literary Festival because of a scheduling conflict, according to the festival website.

Rushdie was scheduled to give the festival’s keynote address Friday. He has been replaced by Trinidad-American novelist Elizabeth Nunez, who was already scheduled to take part in the festival.

Rushdie is the author of "The Satanic Verses," "Midnight’s Children" and other highly regarded novels.

The second annual V.I. Literary Festival was slated to begin Thursday with appearances by more than a dozen international and regional writers. The schedule includes workshops on writing and editing, along with a session on using a cell phone to create a movie and panel discussions on copyright law and self-publishing, among many other topics.

Further details on the festival are online at https://vilitfest.wordpress.com.
