Mapp Grants Friday Leave to Nonessential Executive Branch Employees

In an announcement Wednesday from Government House, Gov. Kenneth Mapp said, “We all look forward to the gathering of family and friends on Thanksgiving Day. … I would like to extend that holiday and grant administrative leave on Friday … to all nonessential employees of the executive branch of government.”

The leave granted does not apply to executive branch essential employees or to employees on a regular or rotating shift, according to Government House.

It can not be granted to employees on annual or sick leave immediately preceding or immediately following the time period. Nor will future leave be granted to employees who are considered essential and/or whose shift happens to fall on a day in which other employees are granted administrative leave.

Commissioners and directors will determine the essential versus nonessential roles of employees within their departments and agencies.
