Mahogany Run Raises Funds for Breast Cancer Awareness Month

During its month-long “Think Pink” Breast Cancer Awareness Campaign in October, the Grille at Mahogany Run Golf Course on St. Thomas raised more than $21,000 to support breast cancer patients.

A portion of the proceeds will be shared with Cancer Support V.I., the American Cancer Society and the St. John Cancer Fund. The Community Foundation of the Virgin Islands and ACS will work with St. Thomas Radiology Associates to distribute vouchers for breast cancer screenings in the coming year as well.

“Having been one of those uninsured people out there in the universe flailing with a diagnosis, not to mention enormous set of bills that would fill my mailbox daily, Cancer Support V.I. and the American Cancer Society are integral pieces of support during my journey,” said Barb Michaud, a breast cancer survivor who works at Mahogany Run and helped organize the fundraiser.

The funds were raised by holding a series of events, including a golf tournament and wine tasting, as well as donating a portion of the proceeds from select food items, wine and raffle tickets for local gift certificates. Last year the inaugural campaign raised over $16,000.

“We are certain we made a difference in the lives of men and women in our territory affected by breast cancer,” said Michaud. “I inspired, through my own healing, the inspiration to pay it forward.”

A number of sponsors made this year’s fundraising campaign possible, including Alpine Securities USVI, Baker Magras & Assoc., Coral World Ocean Park, Cornerstone Insurance Services, International Capital & Management Co., Quantico Consulting Services, Real Impact Corp., Theodore Tunick & Co., Art Haven, Caribbean Foodservice, Little Switzerland, Sea Glass Properties, Kool Kidz, Kellerhals Ferguson Kroblin PLLC and Bellows International.
