Camera Catches Burglar in Action

A burglar broke a window and entered a St. Thomas restaurant Aug. 28. He took cash and a laptop computer, but he left something behind – his picture.

The V.I. Police Department Thursday released a clip from the security cameras at the Flight Deck Restaurant, footage that clearly shows the suspect rifling the cash register and grabbing a computer off of a counter.

According to police the owner of the restaurant told officers he closed and secured the business at roughly 11:00 p.m. Aug. 28. At 6 a.m. the next day the owner arrived at the establishment and noticed that the glass window on the eastern side of the building had been shattered.

Entering the premises, the owner discovered that a Toshiba laptop had been taken, along with an undetermined amount of currency from the cash register.

The preliminary investigation shows that the thief shattered the window with a rock, entered the establishment through the window and removed the cash and computer from the premises.

In the video clip provided, the suspect is clearly seen removing the items mentioned. Police asked anyone who recognizes the suspect in the clip to call the Criminal Investigation Unit at 340-714-9803 or 340- 714-9849, or call the 911 emergency call center.
