Acting Director of the Bureau of Corrections Dwayne A. Benjamin Sr. confirmed Thursday the stabbing of an inmate at the Golden Grove Adult Corrections Facility. N’Kosi Parris sustained puncture wounds to his lower back and is currently hospitalized and receiving treatment at the Gov. Juan F. Luis Hospital.

The alleged assailants, Jermaine Ducreay and Juan Illarraza, who are also inmates, remain in restricted segregation. Benjamin said that the incident took place around 2 p.m. Thursday.

Following a search of the unit and cells, a homemade shank was found in the shower drain of the unit. Benjamin said an active investigation into the incident is under way.

The two assailants have been arrested and charged with the assault by the Virgin Islands Police Department.

The victim is being held on a series of charges that include murder and aggravated rape. Ducreay and Illarraza are being held on charges of destruction of property and first degree murder charges, respectively, in addition to the new charges.
