Shots Fired At Police Officers

Officers on a routine patrol on St. Thomas Wednesday night were fired on when they attempted to pull over a suspected stolen car, the V.I. Police Department said.

None of the officers were injured and the case is under investigation.

According to the police report, the officers were on routine patrol at 8:50 p.m. Tuesday when they saw a vehicle that had been reported earlier in the day as stolen from the Cyril E. King Airport. As the officers attempted to stop the vehicle in the vicinity of Barbel Plaza, the occupants of the stolen vehicle opened-fire, striking the police unit.

Other officers attempted to intercept the stolen vehicle as it traveled up Mafolie Road and again the occupants fired on them.

The suspects abandoned the vehicle in the area of Agnes Fancy and fled on foot.

Anyone with information concerning the incident can phone the Criminal Investigation Bureau at 1-340-715-5522, the 911 emergency call center or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477. Information provided to Crime Stoppers will be kept in the strictest confidence.
