Kirk Franklin to Perform at Reichhold Center on Feb. 7 Nine-time Grammy Award winning gospel artist Kirk Franklin will perform at the Reichhold Center for the Arts at 8 p.m. on Saturday, Feb. 7. Franklin has bridged the gap between gospel and other musical genres for more than two decades. He is known for hits such as “Stomp,” “Revolution,” “Imagine Me” and “September.” “His show, in my opinion, is going to be the most active performance,” said Ian Turnbull, Reichhold Center marketing and sales manager. “He puts on a high-energy show.” Franklin is known for leading urban contemporary choirs such as “The Family,” “God’s Property” and “One Nation Crew.” Limited standing room seats are available at the Reichhold Center Box Office or call 693-1559.
‘Pursuit of Happyness’ Chris Gardner to be 2015 Man-Up Speaker Millionaire entrepreneur, New York Times best-selling author, and philanthropist Chris Gardner will be the featured speaker at the University of the Virgin Islands’ fifth annual Man-Up Male Empowerment Conference. The conference is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the UVI Sports and Fitness Center on the St. Thomas Campus and on Wednesday, Feb. 11, on the grounds of the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix. Public Viewing Scheduled at UVI’s Etelman Observatory Friday, Feb. 6 The University of the Virgin Islands College of Science and Mathematics and the Etelman Observatory will be hosting its next public observing session using the Virgin Islands Robotic Telescope from 7-10 p.m. on Friday, Feb. 6. The public will be treated to views of the great Globular Cluster in Hercules; the Orion Star Forming Nebula; Jupiter and a waning gibbous Moon. The evening will also feature a video presentation and lecture discussing how to discern good science from fanciful fiction in a world of seemingly endless information and misinformation.
"We are pleased to invite the St. Thomas public to join us and enjoy the night sky, views of our galaxy, and a discussion of interesting and exciting topics in the world of astrophysics and space science," said Etelman Observatory Director Dr. David Morris.
This event is presented free of charge to the St. Thomas community. Space is limited. Shuttle service will be provided from the Sibilly School parking lot (near Sibs). Agrifest 2015 Set for Feb. 14-16: ‘Agriculture – The Heart of it All’ Is Theme The UVI Cooperative Extension Service (CES) and the Agricultural Experiment Station (AES) invite the community to the 44th Annual Agriculture and Food Fair of the U. S. Virgin Islands, which will convene at the Rudolph Shulterbrandt Agricultural Complex at Estate Lower Love on St. Croix from Feb. 14-16. The theme is “Agriculture: The Heart of it All.”
Sixteen UVI components will be participating in the exhibits by displaying their products and the services offered to the community. CES and AES will portray the theme by presenting a garden area with high-yielding fruit and vegetables from their research projects. Displays will also feature heart-healthy nutrition and diet tips, best practices and handouts, as well as other offerings.
Admission will be $6 for adults, $4 for seniors and $3 for children. The Agriculture and Food Fair is sponsored by the V.I. HIV/AIDS Testing Set for Feb. 6 on UVI’s Albert A. Sheen Campus HIV/AIDS testing will be available on UVI’s Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix on Feb. 6, which is designated as National Black HIV/AIDS Awareness Day. The day’s theme is “I am my Brother’s and Sister’s keeper. Fight HIV/AIDS!” Testing will be available in a mobile unit provided by Hope, Inc. in the UVI Bookstore parking lot from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The activity is sponsored by the UVI Health Services Center. UVI Scholarship Application Deadline Set for March 2 March 2 is the deadline to apply for UVI scholarships for the 2015-2016 school year. Applications are available in person at the UVI Financial Aid offices on the St. Thomas Campus and on the Albert A. Sheen Campus on St. Croix. Applications can also be downloaded using the following links:

VIUCEDD to Offer American Sign Language Classes on St. Thomas, St. Croix Beginning Feb. 9 Classes in American Sign Language will be offered by UVI’s Virgin Islands University Center for Excellence in Developmental Disabilities (VIUCEDD) from Feb. 9 through April 16, on St. Thomas and St. Croix. Two levels of instruction will be offered. Beginners Level I classes are scheduled on Mondays and Wednesdays. Beginners Level II classes are offered on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Sessions on St. Thomas will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in Room 114 of the Teacher Education building on UVI’s St. Thomas Campus. St. Croix sessions will take place from 5:45-7:15 p.m. at the VIUCEDD Office, at No. 1 Golden Grove. The cost is $150 per course.
