Lighthouse Mission Readies for 3rd Annual Charity Event, Auction

“Hearts for the Homeless – Care for the Kids” generates critical capital for operating needs and facility upgrades at the Lighthouse Mission. The event will be held from 5:30-8 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 10. Once again, it will be held at Tutto Bene Restaurant, located near Canegata Ballpark, just west of the bypass.
Nestled in the heart of Sunday Market Square, the Lighthouse opens its doors to children and families, as well as the homeless and needy. Thirty children are welcomed by a dedicated staff to a safe, nurturing environment for their after-school hours, where they enjoy snacks and recreation. Educational needs are addressed through study time and homework assistance, and they are balanced with a general assembly for Biblical principles, character development and practical life lessons. Community Events bring families together for special occasions.
A hot meal is offered five days a week to the homeless and needy. They can get showers, gently used clothing, shoes, toiletries and hygiene items at the Personal Care Center. They’re encouraged to help pick up around the Lighthouse building and grounds, mop floors or stock donated items. They get personal attention, encouragement in life skills and referrals to other service providers. Veterans get help connecting to eligible services.
Volunteer opportunities are available for individuals and groups, and students can earn community service credit. Irene Cruz wrote on the organization’s Facebook page: “Beautiful cause. I volunteered here when I was in high school, but checking up on them to see how things have been going through social media really helped me to understand why they do what they do. This is something I didn’t realize was important as a child, but something I completely understand now. Your hearts are beautiful towards the children and people in the community. God is really working through all of you. ♥”
Cruz is the director of Sister 2 Sister and brought the young women she leads to serve with the Lighthouse at Christmas.
Tutto Bene will feature a buffet of taste-size desserts from local restaurants, a specialty coffee bar by Twin City Coffee House and Tutto Bene’s endless antipasto. Live music will provide the backdrop to shop for jewelry, dining, service or excursion packages. Smokey Odom is sure to fire up the crowd when the live auction begins. Advance tickets are $30 at Undercover Books at Gallows Bay. Don’t miss this opportunity to purchase the perfect gift for that special person in your life, while supporting a great cause.
