Two Suspects Charged with Rape

Two men were arrested on St. John and charged with first-degree rape after a victim on Friday identified them as the men who assaulted her during the St. John Festival, the V.I. Police Department reported.

The two men arrested are William Taylor, 26, and David Giles Jr., 29. The victim’s name was not released in accordance with a policy of not identifying the victims of sex crimes.

According to the preliminary police report, the victim first encountered the men early in the morning of June 28 while attending events at the St. John Festival. Police said the men took the victim to another location, where she was sexually assaulted, and then returned her to the festival activities.

The victim reported the assault to police the same day.

Police said the victim saw the suspects again on July 4 in the area of the Festival Village and pointed the suspects out to police officers who were patrolling nearby.

The officers informed the Criminal Investigation detectives who were investigating the case, and the two suspects were arrested and charged with first-degree rape.

Both suspects were placed on $75,000 bail each.
