Police Investigate Fatal Shooting

A man identified as 21-year-old Wellington Pennyfeather Jr. was shot and killed Saturday evening in Frederiksted, according to the V.I. Police Department.

It was the third homicide on St. Croix since the beginning of 2014.

According to preliminary reports, at about 7:30 p.m. Saturday officers were dispatched to the area of the Frederiksted Vegetable Market, where they located the unresponsive body of the victim lying in the roadway.

Police said they believe an altercation took place at the market between the victim and another person. The victim ran from the area when shots where discharged and fell injured in the street.

Emergency medical technicians transported the victim by ambulance to the Juan F. Luis Memorial Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Criminal Investigation Bureau and Major Crime Unit detectives are investigating.
