Car Accident Kills Pedestrian

A St. Croix man died Sunday when two vehicles collided as he walked down the street, according to the V.I. Police Department.

Jose Enrique Colon, 48, was walking on the sidewalk just before 7 p.m. Sunday in the vicinity of the Golden Rock Apartments when the accident occurred.

According to police, a blue 1999 GMC Safari van was heading south from 5 Corners toward Christiansted town. A gold 1997 Honda headed in the opposite direction crossed over into the Safari van’s lane, causing a collision, the report said.

The collision caused the safari van to strike the pedestrian, causing major injuries.

Colon was transported by ambulance to the Juan F. Luis Memorial Hospital where he was later pronounced dead.

Traffic enforcement officers are investigating this case.
