Visitor Drowns at Westin

A visitor believed to be in his mid-60s drowned Thursday at the Westin Resort and Villas, St. John Rescue Training Director Bob Malacarne said.

“The gentleman was found face up and near the outer limits of Great Cruz Bay,” he said.

Malacarne said someone brought the victim ashore in a dinghy, and St. John Rescue began CPR. Malacarne said the members continued CPR on the way to Myrah Keating Community Health Center, where he was pronounced dead at around 12:15 p.m. by a Health Center doctor.

According to Malacarne, the man and his family were supposed to end their vacation Thursday.
