Police on St. Croix will conduct checkpoints at various locations on St. Croix during the weekend to crack down on driving under the influence, the V.I. Police Department reported.
In its announcement, the department reminded motorists to have a designated driver or a safe ride home when they plan to drink alcohol at social events.
At the DUI checkpoint officers will identify anyone who appears to be driving impaired. Officers will keep their eyes open for violations of the rules of the road and other criminal violations.
"It is not the intention of the VIPD to inconvenience drivers," the department said in the news release by Public Information Officer Melody Rames. "These checkpoints are designed to keep the roads safe from impaired drivers and minimize the possibility of injuries from traffic accidents."
