Teen Charged with Vessup Beach Robbery

Officers on St. Thomas arrested 18-year-old Travis John on Friday, charging him with stealing a victim’s cell phone and money at gunpoint, the V.I. Police Department said.

The robbery occurred Friday, and the suspect was arrested the same day.

The male victim told police he was walking his dog on Vessup Beach when he saw an older model sedan pass him and then turn around and drive up behind him. According to the victim, one man, with a bandana covering half his face, got out of the vehicle and demanded money. Another man got out of the car and demanded money and the victims’ cell phone.

The victim said he gave the suspects $50 and his iPhone. The suspects drove off in the vehicle.

According to police, the victim said the suspects were holding their hands under their shirts like they had weapons but he did not see an actual weapon.

Based on the information from the victim, detectives were able to arrest John, of Estate Annas’ Retreat. He was in possession of the victim’s phone when he was arrested. He was charged with second-degree robbery and was held on a $10,000 bail pending further court action.

This case is still under active investigation, police said, and the second suspect is still being sought.
