Man Turns Himself In for BMV Murder

After turning himself in to V.I. police, a 24-year-old Contant Knolls man was arrested Monday and charged with the Nov. 8 murder of Akil Greig, according to a police statement.

Police said Shandos Powell was involved in a verbal altercation with the victim at about 11 a.m. on Nov. 8 at the Bureau of Motor Vehicles in Subbase, where Greig worked. Detectives said Powell shot the victim several times before fleeing the scene.

Major Crime and Intelligence Unit detectives said Powell contacted them the evening of the murder and said he would surrender himself, but never turned up. An arrest warrant was issued for Powell’s arrest on November 12.

Powell was charged with second-degree murder, first-degree assault, third-degree assault, reckless endangerment and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime of violence.

He was advised of his rights before Superior Court Judge Adam Christian at about 3 p.m. on November 18. His bail was set at $1,000 which he was unable to post. Powell was remanded to the custody of the Bureau of Corrections pending further court proceedings.
