During an unannounced closed-door session on Monday, the University of the Virgin Islands Board of Trustees voted to authorize Chairman Alex Moorhead to negotiate and execute a new contract with President David Hall, according to a statement emailed from UVI at the end of the business day Friday. The board also voted to accept Hall’s self-assessment of his job performance in 2012 and 2013 and his 2013-14 goals.
The board met in a regular, announced meeting on St. Croix on Oct. 26, but recessed while in executive session, before completing that session’s agenda to allow several trustees to make their flights back to St. Thomas. After concluding the executive session on Monday, Moorhead reported the actions that were taken during the executive session, according to Friday’s statement, sent by UVI public relations specialist Tamika Thomas Williams.
The board also requested the UVI Research and Technology Park Corporation submit a schedule for the payment of $484,800 the university says the technology park owes the university.
It also authorized Hall to execute a memorandum of understanding with Chirinjeev Kathuria and an affiliate of New Generation Power to establish an endowed fund at the Foundation for the University of the Virgin Islands for the benefit of a possible future medical school and undergraduate and graduate programs related to health and sciences at UVI.
In other business, the board:
– approved the minutes of the executive session held June 15;
– approved the candidates proposed for honorary degrees;
– approved the list of the candidates for speaker at the 2014 commencement exercise;
– approved the UVI Research and Technology Park Corporation’s request that the university pledge Parcel No. 12 of V.I. Corp Land as collateral for a line of credit for the park’s cash flow.
