BCB Honoring Teacher with Friday Walk-a-Thon

The Bertha C. Boschulte Middle School is celebrating D. Hamilton Jackson Day with a community walk-a-thon and fair held in honor of BCB physical education teacher Avery Frett, who passed away earlier this year.

The event is a fundraiser for Frett’s family and for the school’s physical education department, which Frett chaired for many years, according to BCB teacher and AVID coordinator Jacquelyn Pickering.

Parents and students will be walking Friday, beginning at 6:30 a.m., from Ivanna Eudora Kean High School back to the BCB campus. The community is invited to come out and then take part in a fair that will feature local games and activities, food, drinks and basketball games between the school’s faculty, staff and parents, Pickering said.

"It is going to be a great event, and we are hoping that everyone comes out and has fun," Pickering added.

The event was organized by BCB teacher David Edole, who recently pitched the idea to Pickering and got the backing of the school’s administration and staff.

"Mr. Frett was truly loved by everyone on our campus, and we wanted to do this in his memory," Pickering said.
