CAHS Downs Cancryn, 34-0, in Flag Football

St. Thomas-St. John IAA flag football had a big matchup Wednesday when the Charlotte Amalie High School Chickenhawks hosted Addelita Cancryn Junior High.

The Chickenhawks started the game on the wrong foot, when quarterback Negee Harris threw an interception, giving Cancryn the ball deep in their own territory. The Chickenhawk defense held Cancryn and forced them to punt .

On the ensuing play, CAHS’s Ahmed Joseph caught the ball on one end of the field but then cut back and went down the opposite sideline all the way for the touchdown. The two-point conversion was no-good and CAHS was up 6-0.

In the second quarter, Joseph caught a pass from Harris and juked two defenders on his way to the score. The two-point conversion was good and the Chickenhawks were up 14-0.

The score remained the same until late in the second quarter when Cancryn’s quarterback dropped back for a pass. But the pressure from the Chickenhawks’ defense line forced a bad pass that was intercepted by Joseph, who momentarily lost the ball but regained it in the air and took it down the sideline for the score.

The two-point conversion was good and the Chickenhawks had a commanding 22-0 lead. The Hawks would take that same score in to halftime. CAHS maintained the shutout in the second half, and finished with a final score of 34-0.
