VITF Holds First Race in Junior Tri VI Series

Virgin Islands Triathlon Federation Dirty Du Race WinnersThe Virgin Islands Triathlon Federation (VITF) held its first race in the 2013-2014 Junior Tri VI series. The 5-6 year-old division was the first to kick off the Dirty Du at Altona Lagoon, Gallow’s Bay. Kaeden Gleason demolished his time from last year (12:15) to take first place in the .25 mile run/.5 mile bike/.25 mile run event. His overall time today was 8:50. Kimani Knight, from St. Mary’s, was second in 9:20, while Parker Sheraw, from Rattan Montessori, was third. Sabine Guerra, from GHCDS, came out for her first race and finished with a great smile on her face.
The large 7-8 year-old group was highly competitive, filled with several athletes who "aged up" this year. Mason Lambert, on the same course as the first group, was the overall winner in a time of 8:02, over one minute faster than his time last year. Trailing Mason right from the start, his sister, Kirra Lambert, was the first female to finish and the second overall. Kirra improved her time from last year by over three minutes. Arkinson Crosbie from Pearl B. Larsen School was the second male finisher, in a time of 8:52. Odin Andrews had an outstanding race and finished third. Newcomer T’Anna Lake from Free Will Baptist School was the second female to finish and Izzy Rodriguez, from AZ Academy was third.
In the 9-11 year-old category, Mikey Dizon-Bumann made his abilities known right from the start. All of his training paid off as he was the first to finish the .5 mile run/1 mile bike/.5 mile run. His time was 14:40. Masse Hatcher was just over one minute behind in 15:46, and newcomer Tyriek Sealey was third in 19:04. Charlotte Halk, sporting a new, larger bike for the season, was the first female finisher. Shanice Muller from AZ Academy was second, and Jazarha Warden from Alfredo Andrews was third.
The oldest group, 12-15 year-olds, was forced to endure the hottest sun during its .5 mile run/2 mile bike/1 mile run. Dom Pugliese from GHCDS posted the fastest bike time in his category to establish first place. His overall time was 24:55. Kolby Fabio and his brother Kristopher, both from Central High, finished second and third, respectively. Melinda Elser, with a finish time of 30:00, was the lone female finisher.
The next Junior Tri VI race, a Splash ‘n Dash (swim/run) event, will be held at 8 a.m. on Sunday, Nov. 24, at Chenay Bay.
