Robber Hits Gem and Gold Corner

A man armed with a handgun robbed the Gems and Gold Corner Jewelry store in Drakes’ Passage Monday, according to the V.I. Police Department.

No one was injured during the robbery, police said.

According to the preliminary police report, the store owner told police he was in the back of the store at about 9:30 a.m. Monday when he saw a man enter the store and pull a handgun from his waist. The suspect told the owner to get down.

The owner said as he crouched in the rear of the store he heard glass breaking in the front of the store. After a while the suspect left, the victim said.

This case is being followed up by detectives from the Criminal Investigation Bureau. Anyone with information on the theft can call detectives at 714-9834 or 715-5522, the 911 emergency call center, or the anonymous tip service, Crime Stoppers USVI, at 1-800-222-8477.
